Children represent the future.On the one hand,all sectors of society have high hopes for the healthy growth of children.On the other hand,the academic standards for children of school age are also increasing and children of school age's learning pressure are increasing gradually.Health problems such as myopia and obesity are spreading to the children.Relying on the advancement of technology,children can easily solve their entertainment needs through electronic products while staying at home,but they ignore the importance of outdoor exercise.Outdoor toys use the outdoors as a place of use,taking into account children's entertainment and exercise,and can alleviate the above phenomenon to a certain extent.However,the current outdoor toys on the market are large in size,their functions and shapes are the same,and there is still room for improvement in design.If they can provide children with learning opportunities to meet the basic entertainment and exercise functions,they will be better meet the needs of children of school age.In this context,the thesis selects the Situational Learning Theory as the theoretical basis of the design,and explores the design of outdoor toys for children of school age based on the Situational Learning Theory around the learning,entertainment and outdoor activities.The theory emphasizes that knowledge and context cannot be separated,and the expansion of learning and cognition should be based on specific contexts.Analysis and case study approach through literature,summed up the meaning and characteristics of Situational learning theory.To define children of school age and outdoor toys,combining the physical characteristics,psychological characteristics and outdoor activity characteristics of children of school age,summarizes their needs for outdoor toys,and provides theoretical support and guidance for design.On the basis of summarizing the Situational Learning Theory and basic characteristics of children,it conducts research on children of school age and their stakeholders through user interviews and questionnaire surveys.The basic situation and influencing factors of outdoor exercise for children of school age are collected,and the needs and pain points of children of school age's outdoor activities are extracted.At the same time,the tendency of their parents to buy toys is understood,and the design opportunities for children of school age's outdoor toys are extracted.With the support of theoretical foundation and research data,the promotion of Situational Learning Theory on children's development,the educational functions and design points of outdoor toys are summarized,so that theories and outdoor toy design can be organically combined.Form the guiding principles of Situational Learning Theory for outdoor toy design and provide guidance for design.In the design stage,this article balances entertainment,exercise and learning from the perspectives of use situation and children of school age's outdoor activities needs,and designs The Tree Shaped Modular Outdoor Toy based on the theory of situational learning.The design rationally uses the guiding principles of situational learning theory,effectively solving the outdoor activities and entertainment needs of children of school age,and provides a little idea and method for the design of outdoor toys for children of school age.
