The history of ancient Chinese furniture has a long history, especially the achievements of "Ming-style furniture" has attracted worldwide attention, and it still has strong vitality today. In the 1930 s,Chinese scholars put forward the design concept of "Chinese and New",and gradually enriched its connotation, focusing this concept on "neo-Chinese" to adapt to the new lifestyle and aesthetic needs of the changing times. The so-called "neo" refers to the attention and fit to the present, while "Chinese" refers to the continuation of tradition and context. From this perspective, the concept of "neo-Chinese" furniture as a whole presents an open and fluid feature. The design method of "module" concept is derived from the in-depth study and summary of the ancient Chinese creation system by the famous German sinologist Lothar Ledderose. He believes that there is a common rule in the creation, production and application of things such as Chinese character system, wooden architecture, bronze, ceramics and woodcut prints. The characteristics of highly intelligent "module" concept and "large-scale" are embodied. The "large-scale" production method is easy to understand, and through the investigation and analysis of the ancient Chinese “module”creation system,it shows that ancient Chinese furniture also has the same characteristics in the process of design, production, assembly and space layout. At present, the number of young people living alone is increasing year by year, and it overlaps with the main consumer groups of "neo-Chinese" furniture.New requirements are put forward for the living space environment, and the concept of furniture design is adjusted accordingly.Through questionnaire surveys and interviews, supplemented by relevant literature and data, study summarize the age characteristics, housing conditions and living styles of young people living alone.Focusing on the basic needs of this group for "neo-Chinese" furniture, feature such as small spaces, single population structure, spatial complexity and functional diversification are discussed, and the needs of convenience packaging, transportation, disassembly and assembly, and the simplification of operating procedures, are also analyzed at the perspective of design, production, and use.Resulting in a "modular" design, the idea can still be revitalized, and a more flexible and diverse furniture design system can be derived.By comparing traditional Chinese furniture with modern furniture design cases, the design and production methods of "neo-Chinese" furniture, such as how function realized, tenon connection structure, and assembly methods, are implemented,as well as specific people's visual aesthetic preference.Functionally, under the “module” concept and through the combination of furniture components, several pieces of furniture among tables, chairs, tables, stools, and shelves can be integrated individually to flexibly transform space functions to meet users' needs in different scenarios.Structurally, the furniture components can be detached and replaced to meet the user's personalized pursuit of aesthetics. And through the evaluation of the design results, the effectiveness of this design method is verified.
