Research On Furniture Categories Of Cheng Jia's "A Dream Of Red Mansions" Research

With the deepening of the study of A Dream of Red Mansions,some research results based on red chamber furniture are produced,which are mainly written description and furniture display.Cheng Jia's A Dream of Red Mansions plays an important role in Chinese literature,and is known as the encyclopedia of Chinese feudal society.It describes life in Qing Dynasty in detail and has various furniture categories.There are 23 descriptions of furniture,including 12 scenes,40 pieces of furniture and 24 illustrations.Relying on archaeology,sociology,design and other related principles,this paper takes the furniture in Cheng Jia's A Dream of Red Mansions as the main research object,and adopts the methods of literature research,inductive analysis,hypothesis deduction,comparative research,iconography analysis and field investigation.A systematic classification of furniture in A Dream of Red Mansions is established,and the rules of different furniture types and furniture combinations are summarized.In the second to fourth chapters of this paper,inductive analysis is adopted.First,the furniture description in A Dream of Red Mansions is classified according to the space scene,and the corresponding relationship between furniture and space scene is formed.Then,according to its use function,the furniture in Dream of Red Mansions can be divided into chairs,stools and piers,beds and thrones,console tables,cabinets and screens,and others.By means of comparative study,this paper compares historical relics,picture books,woodcut prints and red chamber furniture of the same period,sums up the characteristics of different categories of furniture,and restores them to two-dimensional views.Through the exploration of furniture categories in different spaces,it is concluded that the decoration of Rongguofu furniture is complex and the workmanship is fine.There are many kinds of furniture in Grand View Garden,and there are many materials used in combination.There are few types of furniture in Ningguo Mansion,and the only remaining case of curling up is consistent with the furniture shape in the late Qing Dynasty.The fifth chapter divides the space of A Dream of Red Mansions into hall,study room,wing room,Buddhist temple and other spaces by means of induction and comparison.The combination of hall space furniture emphasizes order and law;The combination of study space furniture emphasizes function;The combination of room space furniture emphasizes privacy,and the use of utensils is very individual;The combination of Buddhist temple space furniture emphasizes social attributes;Other space furniture combinations emphasize "respecting the left",which reflects the class attribute of feudal society.The sixth chapter summarizes that the furniture development of A Dream of Red Mansions conforms to the historical development trend of Qing Dynasty,and the furniture culture presents from prosperity to prosperity and then to decline;The layout principle of furniture combination is symmetry,functionality,subjectivity and sociality.The furniture category characteristics,furniture gallery and furniture combination rules of A Dream of Red Mansions obtained from the research of this paper are beneficial supplements to the furniture research of A Dream of Red Mansions,and are of positive significance to the inheritance and development of traditional furniture culture.
