| This paper researches comprehensively on semiotic of Ming style chairs using the basic principles of semiotics. Then, arriving at the symbolic feature of Ming style chairs. This paper takes the semiotic of Ming style chairs as a complete semiotic system. Then, it analyzes and studies the Ming style chairs from syntactics, semantics and pragmatics' point of view, which provides an important theoretical basis for a deep study. The results of research on human thinking reflected by semiotic of Ming style chairs provide an important basis and new research methods for further studying on cultural connotation of Ming-style furniture. It also promotes the transfer and exchange of Chinese traditional culture in international arena.By means of the research on structure, form, decoration and materials of Ming-style chairs, and using interdisciplinary reference, this paper analyzes the form of symbols corresponding to these modeling factors in semiotic expression language. The study shows that: the structure semiotic of Ming style chairs includes mortise and components symbols; the form symbols includes point symbols, line symbols, surface symbols and body symbols; the decoration symbols includes decorative elements symbols, pictorial symbols and decorative modeling symbols; the material symbols includes timber symbols, metal signs, stone signs and rope symbols.This paper makes comprehensive studies for the structure semiotic of Ming style chairs and finds out the relationship between each form based on syntactics. Then, this paper arrives at the relatively determined combination methods between the mortise and component symbols, the methods between component symbols, and methods between component symbols and the whole. This paper points out each meaning of these symbols based on semantics by studying the form symbol, decorative symbols and material symbols of Ming style chairs. In this paper, the source, usage of symblos and the relationship between human and symblos are revealed by the research on semiotic of Ming style chairs and semiotic utility. This study also analyzes the meaning of symbols in a specific scene based on pragmatics.Based on the research on Confucianism and Taoism in Ming and Qing Dynasties the quantity of rite and the development of Traditional Chinese Medicine, this paper draws the Confucianism and Taoism, eudal ethics of radical reform and the logos of Traditional Chinese Medicine which is aiming at human health. This paper reveals the humanism connotation of semiotic of Ming style chairs by going through a large amount of historical documents and basic research results. |
