It is plentiful for Rhus tree resourceand can produce Rhus seeds 1.5 million ton per year in China.The main manufacture method of rhus wax is pressing,which restrict its development and application owing to its small scale,low productivity,high cost and deep color.The work of extraction technology,decolor technology,modification by hydrogenation under high pressure and the application of modified products on furniture have been done in order to promote the high value utilization of Rhus wax.Thermal recirculation method was used to extract Rhus wax from Rhus tree seeds.The optimum condition was obtained by single factor and orthogonal experiments.The optimum condition is solvent120#,extract temperature 65℃,ratio of solid to liquid(solvent)1:8(m/v),extract time 45 min.the extract rate is above 90%under this condition.Decolorization of extract of Rhus wax seeds by absorption.It indicated that the optimum condition of decolorization by single factor and orthogonal experiment is the addition of activated clay 80%(based on Rhus wax),temperature 90 ℃,The concentration of rhus wax solution 10%,time 90 min when C2Cl4 as solvent and activated clay as decolorized agent.The decolorized rate can reach 75%。Rhus wax was modified by hydrogenation.The optimum technology of hydrogenation was obtained when iodine value was used as refrence index.The suitable condition of hydrogenation is the amount of Pd-C(5.0%)0.1%(based on the mass of decorlored Rhus wax),reaction time 3h,reaction temperature 220℃ and the pressure of hydrogen 5.0MPa.The unsaturated double bonds of hydrogenated Rhus wax decrease obviously by comparing the 1H spectrum of NMR before and after hydrogenation,which indicated the unsaturated fatty acid transfer to the saturated fatty acid.Hydrogenation can assist decolorated effect of Rhus wax,it is positive relevant between decolorated effect and hydrogenation temperature,however it is no relevant to degree of hydrogenation.Nursing wax for furniture was prepared from hydrogenated rhus wax,Glossiness was used to evaluate the nursing effect.The rational formula of nursing wax for solid wood furniture(mass units)is:gum rosin 6.8 units,Brazil wax 4.2 units,hydrogenated Rhus wax 8.5 units,beeswax 8.5 units、optical brighteners 12.7 units,solvent 120#59.3 units.The photo of SEM indicated that the roughness of wooded board decreased and more smooth of surface when solid wood furniture treated with Rhus wax.The properties of solid wood furniture treated with Rhus wax is superior to other goods in market.The gloss decreased within 3 months by persistence detection,especially within the most recent bi-weeks.
