Scaphidium Olivier,1790(type species: Scaphidium quadrimaculatum Olivier,1790)is a genus of Coleoptera,Staphylinidae,Scaphidiinae. The species of the genus usually live in the forests. All species of the genus are fungivorous and can be found on decayed wood or in leaf litter layer of humid environments.Presently,350 species of the genus have been recorded in the world,including348 living species and two fossil species.Among them,61 Scaphidium species are recorded from China, and 3 from Xizang. In this study,a taxonomic study on Scaphidium species of Xizang is established. The results of the study can be summarized as follows:1.Twenty-one species of the genus Scaphidium from Xizang are recorded, including eight new species: S.fulvescent sp.nov.,S.ruficolle sp.nov.,S.seorsum sp.nov.,S.curvipes sp.nov.,S.crassifasciatum sp.nov.,S.angustifasciatum sp.nov.,S.zhangwenxuani sp.nov.and S.nigroapicalis sp.nov..Eight species are new to China:S.arrowi Achard,1920,S.holzschuhi L(?)bl,1992,S.cyanellum Oberthür,1883,S.harmandi Achard,1920,S.nepalense L(?)bl,1992,S.rufipes Pic,1922,S.melanogaster L(?)bl,1992 and S.biseriatum Champion,1927.Two species are new to Xizang: S.unifasciatum Pic,1916 and S.carinense Achard,1920.2.All species are described in detail with research histories, collection information and geographical distributions.Plates of habitus and major diagnostic characters are given.3.A database of Scaphidiumis is built by File Maker Pro Advanced software, containing the scientific names, type localities, taxonomic histories, relevant literature and illustrations of diagnostic characters.4.A key to Xizang species of the genus Scaphidium is presented.5.The distribution maps of Scaphidium in Xizang are provided, and the geographical distribution patterns are analyzed.
