Ephemerellidae is the fourth diverse family in mayflies(Ephemeroptera),with more than 18 genera 300 reported species around world, and they widely distribute in the Oriental,Nearctic and Palearctic regions. In China, the diversity of this family is also high but most species were studied decades ago with relatively brief description and pictures on one stage of their life history. Moreover,no molecular systematics has been done so far.In addition,in recent 30 years, the classification system of this family has changed greatly but the Chinese ephemerellid species have not been adjusted accordingly yet.In this thesis, all ephemerellid materials from Chinese mainland, including those deposited in NJNU and collected by the author in recent years, are examined and classified using current taxonomic system. As a result, ten genera 46 species are recognized.Among them, the genus Cincticostella has 13 species, six in Serratella, seven in Drunella, five in Torleya and Teloganopsis, three in Ephemerella and Ephacerella, one in Notacanthella and Hyrtanella, two in Spinorea respectively.Four new species of three genera,Cincticostella forcipate sp.nov.,Teloganopsis microda sp.nov.,Ephacerella tylacantha sp.nov.and Ephacerella ciristriata sp.nov.are erected. The imaginal stages of Cincticostella gosei are described for the first time.In order to investigate the generic phylogeny of the Ephemerellidae, three mitochondrial genes(COI,16 S r RNA,12 S r RNA)of six genera 20 Chinese ephemerellid species are sequanced and analyzed, together with other nine sequences in Gen Bank.Adopting Vietnamella sinensis as outgroup, the Bayesian Inference(BI)and Maximam Likelihood(ML)trees are constructed using Phylosuite software. The results show that neither the genus Ephemerella nor Serratella is monophyletic while theose species of the genera Drunella,Cincticostella,Torleya and Teloganopsis are grouped together. This topology is consistent with the morphological analysis.
