The purpose of philosophy is not only to understand the world, but also to transform the world. As a direct tool for transforming the world, technology is profoundly affecting the times we live in.Therefore, technology should be examined from philosophical perspective.Based on Heidegger's later work The Question Concerning Technology, this paper clarifies Heidegger's unique stipulations on the essence of technology and modern technology, thus grasping Heidegger's reflection on technology as a whole. This paper mainly discusses the various stages of Heidegger's reflection on technology through five sections. The first section starts from the question of "what is technology",grasping Heidegger's basic philosophical position of technology.Heidegger regards the essence of technology as a non-technical thing, which reflects the philosophical position of"humanities philosophy of technology".On the basis of the reflection on the two traditional thoughts of technology,Heidegger regards the essence of technology as "cause".Then,Heidegger traces back to Aristotle's "the Four Causes",using a "Silver Plate Theory" to transform "the Four Causes",thus identifying the "cause" as "Verschulden".This section also clarifies the extent to which Heidegger inherits and transforms Aristotle's discussion of"cause" by tracing back to Aristotle's philosophical texts and grasping the original connotation of the concept of "cause" and "the Four Causes" in Aristotle's philosophy. The second section starts from the question of "what is truth",clarifies how Heidegger regards the essence of technology as "das Entbergen" and the meaning of "das Entbergen".By discussing the theory of truth reflected in Being and Time and On the Essence of Truth, this section further discusses the relationship between truth and the essence of technology as"das Entbergen".Heidegger understands technology in the sense of "das Entbergen".Technology is the genesis of truth. The third section starts from the question of "what is the essence of technology".Combined with the interpretation of "(?)" and "(?)" in Symposium and Nicomachean Ethics, this section evaluates the key role of "(?)" and "(?)" in the process of Heidegger's inquiry of the essence of technology.Heidegger uses "presence" and "absence"to indicate the process of "(?)",and attributes the essence of "(?)"to knowledge, thus leading "(?)" and "(?)" to "das Entbergen" as a kind of understanding, finally completing the inquiry of the essence of technology. The fourth section starts from the question of "what is the essence of modern technology",focusing on the concept of "Ge-stell" to clarify the multiple meanings of.it.Heidegger understands "Ge-stell" as a kind of "das Entbergen" in the sense of"Herausfordem"."Ge-stell" urges peoplle to regard nature as "Bestand".At the same time,"Ge-stell" has an inseparable connection with modern science and modern metaphysics. On the one hand,"Ge-stell" predominates the essence of modern science;on the other hand,"Ge-stell" lurks in modern metaphysics, and is identical with the essence of modern metaphysics.Ultimately,Heidegger regards "Ge-stell" as a fate of "das Entbergen",pointing out that the possibility of saving modern technology from danger lies within "Ge-stell" itself. The fifth part discusses the realistic significance of Heidegger's technical reflection in combination with the contemporary technological phenomenon.Through the inquiry of"Ge-stell",Heidegger reveals the alienation state of modern generation under the"herausfordem" effect of "Ge-stell".The alienation of humans is accompanied by the transformation on of the relationship between humans and nature.Humans endlessly grab the resources contained in nature, but humans should have become the caregiver of existence and the protector of nature. Finally, the relationship between technology and science needs to be re-examined in the contemporary era.Technology is no-longer just an "application of science",to be exact, modern technology is a "rebel" against science.
