The mites of the cohort Antennophorina are diverse in their habitat and the most adult mites are typically associated with insects.Antennophorina consists of seven superfamilies,21 families,104 genera with 346 known species worldwide. To date, there was little knowledge about Antennophorina in China, from where there were only six species, accounting for 1.8%of the total worldwide, belonging to five genera in three families of two superfamilies reported before the present study. Moreover, due to the morphology of Antennophorina was scarcely studied, taxonomic status of higher taxa have been being in controversy. In order to close the gap in the knowledge and improve classification work of the mite group, the thises carried out a comprehensive study on taxonomic and morphology of Antennophorina from the Oriental region of China.1 Taxonomy and the taxa new to science and ChinaThere are 26 species and 17 genera of eight families belonging to three superfamilies are herein described in Antennophorina,of which 19 species and one genus are new to science, five families, nine genera and one species are firstly recorded from China. The taxa new to science or to China are listed as follows.1.1 Taxa new to ScienceOne new genus(published):Alloeuzercon Sun,Jin&Yi,2021Nineteen new species(one species published):Brachylobogynium monofurcum sp.nov.Diplogyniopsis fluctus sp.nov.Diplogyniopsis trifolium sp.nov.Diplogyniopsis transtriatum sp.nov.Lobogynioides brevisetus sp.nov.Diplogyniella curvicornica sp.nov.Passalacarus bluntus sp.nov.Alloeuzercon seemani Sun,Jin&Yi,2021Euzerconoides trapezoideus sp.nov.Euzerconoides macrocorniculus sp.nov.Trichotoeuzercon foliaceus sp.nov.Funkotriplogynium quadripuntalus sp.nov.Fedrizzia multispina sp.nov.Neofedrizzia trisetosa sp.nov.Neofedrizzia longisetosa sp.nov.Neofedrizzia fissa sp.nov.Stenosternum polyosetum sp.nov.Stenosternum conveoum sp.nov.Megisthanus longicorniculus sp.nov.1.2 Taxa new to ChinaFive families newly recorded from China:Diplogyniidae Tragardh,1941Euzerconidae Tragardh,1938Triplogyniidae Funk,1977Fedrizziidae Tragardh,1937Megisthanidae Berlese,1914Nine genera newly recorded from China:Brachylobogynium Bhattacharyya,1969Diplogyniopsis Tr(?)g(?)rdh,1950Lobogynioides Tr(?)g(?)rdh,1950Diplogyniella Tr(?)g(?)rdh,1950Euzerconoides Funk,1980Trichotoeuzercon Funk,1980Funkotriplogynium Datta,1985Fedrizzia Canestrini,1884Megisthanus Thorell,1882One species newly recorded from China:Neofedrizzia gordoni Seeman,20072 Comparative morphology with characteristic designing of higher taxaThrough the comparative study on morphology of main features of idiosoma and gnathosoma among superfamilies and families. The applicable diagostic characteristics of the higher taxa were clarified.2.1 Correcting characteristics designing of AntennophorinaThe study indicated that the diagostic characteristics of Antennophorina could be as below:tritosternal laciniae separated;sternal shield entire;gnathotectum with one process;corniculus strong and heavily sclerotized;palp genu with 7 setae.2.2 The applicable diagostic characteristics of superfamilyIt is important for identifying superfamilies on sternal and genital region. The diagnostic characteristics with taxonomic significance for superfamilies are as follows:dorsal shield covering dorsum;with or without presternal shields, metasternal shields, ventromarginal shields;sternal shield with or without stl-st3;the form of latigynial shields and mesogynial shield;ventral shield fused to or free from anal shield;gnathotectum with ventro-median keel;the shape of chelicera excrescences.2.3 The applicable diagostic characteristics of familyIt is important for identifying families on sternal and genital region, including corniculus and palptarsal claw. The diagnostic characteristics with taxonomic significance are as followings:the shape of presternal shields and with setae and pores;sternal shield fused to or free from metasternal shields.Metasternal shields are variational, which, due to the variations are overlapped anong the families, couldn't be used as the diagnostic trates for families. It is also variational in Diplogyniidae and therefore couldn't be used as the diagnosis of the genera whithin Diplogyniidae. As a preliminary exploring of taxonomics of Antennophorina in China, the results with a number of new taxa and newly recorded taxa indicate that Antennophorina is rich in the species around the country, from where the more Antennophorina species will be achieved by further research. The present thesis therefor has laid a groundwork for in-depth systematics of Antennophorina as wll as each and every family.
