This study aimed to develop and experiment a plug-in for Quantum GIS(QIS)using the python programming language.Thus,testing the hypothesis that the plug-in developed in QGIS using python can be used to create thematic maps as an end results of soil texture.Therefore,the main objective of this study was to create a QGIS plug-in on soil texture and also produce soil texture thematic maps from raster data.Moreover,the plug-in had two key functions:To analyse raster data using schematic dataTo produce a final thematic map with soil texture dataRecent years has seen a spark in the increased demand for technological advancements and also the demand for GIS programs,applications and the use of it in general is no different.Raster data was used in this study although pre-processing tasks such as importing custom high-resolution datasets(Landsat8 imagery)still require a considerable effort from the user.We present the soil texture plug-in,a free,open source,and cross platform QGIS python plug-in to help scientist and practitioners with their soil texture analysis and studies.The soil texture plug-in incorporates the new and the existing tools for data processing,configuration,simulation,and finally visualization into a single graphical environment.However,this plug-in can only be used in QGIS whether on windows,Mac Os,and Linux operating systems.After getting the results on soil textures for the study area,analysis on soil texture was used provided with the results being classified based on the soil classification system selected by the user.
