Abstract/Summary:
This thesis analyzes the social responsibility multinational oil and gas enterprises have with respect to the societal and environmental impact of their operations. Historically, these firms have exploited natural resources in regions around the world without adhering to any strict standards of ethics or, environmental protection politics, and with little regard to societal impacts among the communities in which they operate.;This research will define corporate social responsibility (CSR) and demonstrate the business case to highlight the role CSR must play in a continuing globalized and connected world of new consumer behaviors and expectations. Taking a deeper dive into three regions impacted by decades of oil and gas extraction, production and refinement -- Niger Delta in Nigeria, the Amazon region of Ecuador, and the Gulf of Mexico -- this research provides evidence to support the business case for a new CSR framework for the oil and gas industry.;In conclusion, this research borrows best practices across industries to recommend a specially designed CSR framework that can be easily adopted for the oil and gas industry.
