Abstract/Summary:
This survey of 545 employees from a government agency in Singapore explored the relationship between organizational communication and employee job satisfaction.;Survey questionnaires for measuring communication satisfaction and job satisfaction were sent to randomly selected respondents for completion during working hours.;Correlation analyses were carried out to test the relationships among three key communication variables, namely openness, trust and participation in decision making, and job satisfaction previously tested in U.S. organizations. Results largely supported prior research.;Conclusions were: (1) a positive relationship exists between the communication dimensions of openness, trust and participation in decision making, and job satisfaction; (2) the communication dimensions of trust and openness are more strongly correlated with job satisfaction than participation in decision making; (3) there is no difference between upper- and lower-level employees in their openness-job satisfaction and participation-job satisfaction relationships; and (4) perceived trust is more strongly related to job satisfaction among upper-level employees than lower-level employees.
