Abstract/Summary:
The purpose of this doctoral project is to develop a comprehensive theoretical model of sexual offenses perpetrated by females. This doctoral project explores the relationship among sexual abuse, attachment, childhood adversity, and abnormal brain development with the goal of developing a robust theory of female sexual offenders (FSO) from which models can be derived for hypothesis testing. For purposes of this doctoral project, FSO are defined as adult women who have been convicted as a result of criminal prosecution for a sexual offense. This definition does not include women whose problematic sexual behaviors have not come to the attention of law enforcement or have not subsequently resulted in prosecution and conviction.
