Abstract/Summary:
The following study explored the concept of international business speaking. Specifically, the study identified and analyzed a sampling of international businessmen's perceptions on effective overseas presentational speaking. What kind of effect does the international setting have on speakers' plans for presenting business oriented material? Data was collected by interviewing thirty men working for multinational corporations based in the Twin Cities. Both open-ended questions and a written questionnaire were used as instruments. This study indicated that speakers should prepare for the presentation by conducting a thorough audience analysis. This should include what cultures are represented in the audience, how many people will be attending, what level of the corporation do they represent, as well as other components of the audience. Also, subjects reported that they tend to slow down their delivery. Finally, the content will contain supporting material that is drawn from the culture that the businessmen are speaking in overseas.
