Funding home health care has evolved along with the changing reimbursement methods in the nations care system today.; Funding the for-profit sector such as the durable medical equipment companies is also presented. Cost effectiveness of funding home I.V. therapy is debated. The changes in reimbursement methods for home health care with an emphasis on Medicare are explained.; Factors affecting the demand for home health services such as the epidemic of AIDS and our aging population will contribute to the growth of the home health industry. The cost effectiveness of outpatient care and home care as the preferred alternative is presented. Future funding proposals such as long term care insurance, the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act and future funding proposals by HCFA such as a PPS for reimbursement in home health care are discussed.
