Abstract/Summary:
One thousand staff members were surveyed to gather self-perceptions of parent styles and self-ratings of effectiveness in therapeutic environments. A six page survey was returned from 291 staff members which were rated on five dimensions of effectiveness.;The effectiveness dimensions were Communication, Management, Impact, Environment, and Team. These dimensions were derived from self-ratings of staff members in areas such as perceived ability to provide a role model, be self-motivated, assist co-workers during crisis times, show personal concern, provide opportunities for verbal expression of patients, and manage stress.;Seven established American parenting styles were utilized in this research. Of the seven parenting styles three were associated with the most effective staff members.
