Abstract/Summary:
In the thesis the author discusses a Spanish architect Felix Candela's creative design method. The discussion concentrates on engineering issues and their relation to architectural solutions. After the discussion about the validity of Candela's structural design method, the author attempts to assess Candela's place in the historical development of reinforced concrete shells as for their structure and form.; The introduction to thesis includes a basic biographic information and a brief review of Candela's professional activity. The research case studies for the thesis were completed in Mexico, where most of Candela's structures have been built. The author received a special grant from Georgia Tech Foundation which made a foreign research study possible.
