Abstract/Summary:
The intent of this study was to develop a plan for a barrier-free clothing store which would be compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. The study's purpose was to examine possible interior design solutions which could be universally utilized by disabled and non-disabled customers and employees alike. The procedure used throughout the study concerned accumulating relevant information about the act and customer shopping tendencies, then generating a design which would maximize sales and be compliant with the act.; The Americans with Disabilities act was a major source of data. Unlike other designs, this design incorporated compliance issues "up-front".; Compliance did not minimize a designer's flexibility, and the design potentially created long-term employee productivity and customer sales. Additionally, the design did not require unattractive compliance materials.
