Abstract/Summary:
Numerical and perturbative methods are used to solve the differential equation of the undamped unforced anharmonic oscillator. Two solutions are compared. They appear to be in good agreement with each other. In addition, the effects of the damping and driving force on the frequency response function of the nonlinear oscillator are studied numerically. Subharmonic and superharmonic resonances which are predicted by the perturbative solution are observed. It is found that the damping factor and the driving force amplitude have substantial effects on the relative strength of the subharmonic and superharmonic resonances.
