Abstract/Summary:
This study assessed predictors of employee satisfaction in the patient and non-patient units of a medical center foodservice department using an employee opinion questionnaire. Data were analyzed from 92 patient unit and 59 non-patient unit questionnaires. Employees responded to questionnaire statements using five-point satisfaction, agreement, assessment, and importance scales, a three-point "Yes," "No," "Don't Know" scale, and by indicating appropriate demographic information and writing personal comments. Results suggested that both units' employees were demographically similar, generally satisfied with their jobs, agreed that the organization and their unit promoted teamwork and quality, believed that the department provided quality food and service, and believed that foodservice quality was very important. Regression analysis indicated that the strongest predictors of employee satisfaction were work environment issues such as value and respect for employees, high performance standards, a focus on solving problems without blame, and supervisor attentiveness to suggestions.
