| This thesis describes a speech compression method called vector quantization (VQ) and simulates several types of VQ with off-the-shelf components. The components consist of the Mathematica software package, a Soundblaster audio card, and a DOS computer with a 486 DX microprocessor. After a discussion of vector quantization theory, the results of several simulations with actual speech passages will be presented. |
