The development and combination of computer technology and wireless network technology make mobile GIS become the hotspot of GIS Industry. As a new wireless technology, CDMA not only can provide better communication service, but also does it have strong capacity to provide space service. So the subject of this thesis is the design and implementation of Vector Map Explore based on CDMA, it is an interface for mobile GIS applications. By means of it, Service Provider (SP) can develop vector map applications conveniently to realize the exploring, zooming in, zooming out and rotating of map in the screen of mobile phones. At the same time, it can provide other abundant map services. The thesis is divided into seven chapters; the emphases are chapter 4 to chapter 6. The first chapter is the introduction of the whole thesis. It introduces the history of GIS in China and other countries, mobile GIS (the hot application of GIS), and Mobile Location Service (one application of mobile GIS). Moreover, it clarifies the research subject and meaning of this thesis. Chapter 2 introduces the characteristic, relative technologies and applying status of mobile GIS in detail. This chapter puts focus on the technologies that influence the mobile GIS, including database technology, mobile position technology and data access technology. Chapter 3 designs the whole system, and analyzes why I choose the vector data format. Chapter 4 begins with the construction of the whole CDMA location-based service framework, and analyzes the construction of GIS framework that supports the vector map applications. The chapter clarifies the parts of GIS framework and their functions, and introduces the systematic and physical structure of GIS framework. The emphases of this chapter are the functional modules and application interface of the server that the subject involves. Chapter 5 introduces the design of Vector Map Explorer in detail. The design methods include the blocked-map model aiming at patching map up, virtual map structure, data management model based on LRU algorithm, the structure and management of render information.
