Abstract/Summary:
The 9,138,789 inhabitants of Los Angeles County, speaking 78 languages, live together in a connected, not segregated environment. Societal changes due to economic fluctuations have had considerable effect on governmental program development and experience. The program "PEACE 90805" constitutes a workshop that teaches high school students how to resolve conflicts in a nonviolent manner. The program acknowledges the immediate heterogeneous society and maintenance of relationships.;Based on pretest/posttest measures, workshop participants acquired essential attitudes and skills for successful nonviolent conflict resolution. Findings also indicated relationships between being a target of harassment or physical violence and these factors.;It is essential to understand the value of mutual understanding to create a harmonious society, not only for the young people who create the future society but also for the elderly who have built it. It is society's task to learn the values of productive conflict resolution and to apply practical resolution techniques in daily life.
