Abstract/Summary:
Multipath interference has been one of the practical problems in communication systems. Multipath communication is the transmission of information that takes more than one path to the receiver, the indirect paths combine to produce a noiselike multipath component, thus producing interference and echoes in the received signal. In this paper, the effects of multipath transmission interference in a digital communication system are investigated. Three different approaches are carefully studied: statistical, adaptive, and wavelet transform techniques.;First, the received signal is modeled, and a detector is designed with appropriate decision-theory, minimum probability of error to recover the signal with a better performance. Next, an adaptive system is investigated, by modeling the impulse response of the channel, to "unravel" the signal and permit communication. Finally, a wavelet transform approach is considered as a preprocessing step before detection. A better detection performance is achieved with wavelet thresholding, in which the multipath interference and noise are being reduced.
