Abstract/Summary:
Deployment of a distributed networks of wireless sensors has opened the doors to many possible applications from military/surveillance, environmental, monitoring applications, ubiquitous computing, and health monitoring. We developed a specific implementation of a wireless network consisting of a group of small Wireless Intelligent Sensors (WISE) that perform local data acquisition and processing, uploading data and results to a central location for further data and knowledge processing and archiving. We proposed a custom protocol for both the communications between the wireless slaves and a wireless gateway as a master, as well as for communication between a personal server and the master. Our target application is a portable wireless medical monitoring system with multiple intelligent physiological sensors suitable for prolonged monitoring.
