Abstract/Summary:
Modern communication networks handle congestion and link failures using dynamic routing schemes. However, Dynamic routing schemes can not provide differential treatment to different traffic.; We have developed Traffic Engineering mechanisms that give preferential treatment for prioritized service classes to improve their grade of service and studied the impact of these schemes on network performance.; We simulate fully and partially connected networks from the traffic perspective and observe the effect of dynamic routing schemes and traffic engineering mechanisms on performances.; Traffic engineering mechanisms like Constraint Based Routing, Trunk Reservation, Service class based Multi-Link Trunk Reservation and Pseudo-Partitioning have been evaluated using a flow based model. We infer that Service class based Multilink Trunk Reservation gives the targeted grade of service at significantly low network capacity. Pseudo partitioning provides the same grade of service at a higher network capacity and lower network blocking.
