Abstract/Summary:
The emergence of new telecommunication services especially the surge of Internet challenges the existing Intelligent Network-based service deployment architecture.; This thesis demonstrated the design and implementation process for an Open Service Architecture (OSA) which supports third party service providers using the component-oriented and distributed computing technologies. The OSA deployed a messaging framework—event-oriented messaging. An event-driven messaging mechanism is independent of the underlying signalling system, so that it is easy for a service provider to integrate components from different sources. Besides the open service provisioning architecture, this study also considers code reuse to be an important issue. Unlike the Service Independent Building Block (SIB) approach in traditional IN Concept Module, an active development idea is shown using Beans. The research on service build-up process focused on service logics instead of service entities as most other projects did. An automatic extendable framework was proposed, based on Java Reflection and Serialization APIs. With such framework, a service provider can easily integrate services from multiple vendors and develop new services using other service providers' existing services. Therefore the research achieved two levels of reuse. One is to integrate the existing feature to build up a new service (SIB-oriented approach) which takes place in the deployment phase. Another is to create a new service with existing services, which is achieved at runtime.
