Abstract/Summary:
This project report will address the process in which the McDonnell Douglas Corporation (now The Boeing Company) C-17 Program responds to product damage related to incidents in the aircraft production environment. This includes the reporting of incidents to the customer and the other various departments as a result of those incidents. Improvements were needed in this area, and the critical need for change was driven partially by the high costs expended fixing products that had sustained unnecessary damage during incidents.; This project documents the Process Based Management (PBM) seven step process that was utilized by a cross-functional team specifically chartered to examine, understand, and implement appropriate changes in the incident reporting process. The team focused upon what contributing factors may lead to improper reporting, including the awareness of contractual or procedural requirements. Additional research was conducted by reviewing procedures, benchmarking, and by interviewing process experts.
