| Highly reliable operation of a telephone network system is of great importance for maintaining customer satisfaction. It is noted that the bad weather conditions are responsible for as much as 70% of the signal interruptions. In this research, we apply Condition-based Maintenance (CBM) methodology to analyze the telephone line system, in which both the interruptions and various weather conditions are considered to make decisions.;We analyze the system by applying optimization modeling software, EXAKT, which is being developed at the University of Toronto's CBM Laboratory. Proportional Hazard Model (PHM) was utilized incorporating the complex weather conditions of the network system. A case study is proposed and the key factors relating to the reliability are identified. A new methodology for data pre-processing is developed in data preparation phase, which lays the groundwork for further investigations. The research also presents an extension of the classical long-term optimal decision policy. |
