Abstract/Summary:
The study of sensor networks is a relatively new application evolving with the revolution in wireless communication and networking. The sensor nodes communicate important data such as the health of the aircraft wiring to the end user.; This thesis presents the Medium Access Control layer for Code Division Multiple Access-based wireless sensor networks. The work in this thesis evaluates existing protocols to determine their advantages and disadvantages for wireless sensor networks, develops an improved protocol, simulates the protocol using OPNET simulation software, and evaluates the effectiveness of this new protocol. This work is novel because of the use of Code Division Multiple Access and Carrier Sensing Multiple Access for the sensor networks.
