Nowadays, communication technology, embedded technology, and sensor technology have gained a rapid development, plus the monitoring environment has become so complicated, traditional wireless sensor networks which can only obtain simple data can not meet the full need of environmental monitoring any more. We urgently need to introduce informative images, audio, video and other media into the environmental monitoring activities based on sensor networks, to achieve fine-grained, accurate information on environmental monitoring. As a result, wireless multimedia sensor networks have emerged.But the multimedia wireless sensor networks technology is still subject to many restrictions. The first is the need to enhance network capacity. Because a large amount of data of audio, video, images and other media is introduced, the capacity of multimedia sensor nodes to collect, process, store, send&receive information and energy to provide all needs to be significantly enhanced. And in order to facilitate the needs of multimedia transmission, we must significantly increase the network bandwidth. The second is more complex processing tasks. For multimedia audio and video are data information-rich, complex format and require more high-end compression, recognition and fusion. Finally, the multimedia sensor network is not a stack of simple sensor networks and multimedia networks.In this paper, we first research the background of this subject and compared the characteristics of existing sensor networks, and describe the infinite sensor networks communication technologies at home and abroad. The we do research on the multimedia sensor network access technology to solve the problem of digital home service network accessing to audio and video fast and flexible, study a variety of devices for multimedia wireless sensor networks, and change the traditional function-based control into service-based control to achieve the integration of different control terminals to simplify the digital home service operation, discuss the networking and process of networking of wireless sensor networks and find solutions for the integration of wireless sensor networks and multimedia network. Last we propose a design of multimedia sensor networks. It consists of wireless sensor networks and traditional networks of video and it is a multi-network integration network. Upper access Internet, the middle use multimedia node transmit multimedia data, the lower use common wireless sensor networks transmit control and scalar data. And target at a specific environment (home system) to achieve application, developed a system platform based on B/S structure and achieved distributed control.
