Abstract/Summary:
This thesis proposes a novel QoS-aware Call Admission Control (CAC) scheme for radio access in wideband wireless UMTS networks. It features an efficient CAC algorithm coupled with a QoS class separation mechanism based on the transmitted power of each individual mobile terminal.; Three inter-relating components have been introduced to extend a currently existing UMTS uplink admission control scheme. First, a measurement-based module monitors the load of the system during a moving time interval.; Second, a power-prediction module simulates the state of the system k steps ahead and partly bases the admission decision on what the future state of the system would look like if this particular call were actually accepted.; Third, the above two modules have been integrated in a call admission control algorithm with a power sharing structure. This structure aims at achieving differential treatment between the classes. Thus under light load conditions, traffic from all QoS types is accepted. In case there are sufficient resources, the classes are allowed to borrow resources from each other. Under high load conditions, however, the per-class resource allocations are strictly observed.
