Abstract/Summary: | |
As we have seen in the recent times, there has been a tremendous growth in the computer networks arena. This growing complexity in networking requires sophisticated monitoring and management strategies. Traditionally this has been done using predominantly centralized techniques. There has been a lot of research going on in the field of network management in the past decade. Mobile Agents have been proposed as a promising solution to this. In this thesis we propose a novel approach towards distributed and dynamic network monitoring, using Mobile Agents. We present a fault-tolerant framework with infrastructural support (through HTTP) for monitoring using the IBM Aglets System and show how KMon, a Java-based Distributed Network Monitoring Application can use this support for efficient data collection and analysis and adapt to variations in network characteristics. |
