Abstract/Summary:
Clinical laboratories play a key role in the healthcare industry, providing caregivers critical information they need to diagnose and treat patients. The service philosophy in the laboratory is to provide accurate diagnostic information in a timely manner with the least risk to the patient.;ISO 15189 is a relatively new standard developed for clinical laboratories. It allows an organization the opportunity to plan, assess, and develop a comprehensive quality management system for the laboratory, as well as complying with current regulatory and accreditation requirements.;This project prepares a clinical laboratory, with the adoption of ISO 15189, to capitalize on its potential benefits in reducing laboratory errors, improving operational efficiency, and increasing productivity, with the ultimate goal of accurate and reliable patient results. It is the intent of this project to provide open and factual discussion on ISO 15189 to better understand and facilitate laboratory industry support for its full potential.
