The purpose of this project is to create a more effective lab for a college-level physics course. This was mainly achieved by developing a new lab manual for the Physics 212 lab course. Innovations for the manual are based on six semesters of experience in teaching this course. Eight of the original twelve labs were rewritten while the other four were dropped, and in their place, four entirely new labs were created. The project was implemented in the Fall 1999/Spring 2000 semesters. After completing each weekly lab in the Fall semester, an anonymous questionnaire was distributed in order to receive feedback from the students. Based on the feedback, corrections, modifications, and additions were made to the rewritten labs. The revised labs were used in the spring semester and feedback was again collected in order to improve the labs further. Final test scores of the students improved from those of previous semesters, indicating the project's success. |
