Abstract/Summary:
In the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, American Illustration was known for its mass reproduction. Typically, after the artist submitted the illustration to the art director, the original illustration did not retain any commercial value. However, around four decades ago, collectors who were passionate about illustration art started to build a new commercial platform for this type of art. This platform is art galleries.;This paper explores those galleries in the United States that exhibit original illustration art. This exploration focuses on examining the structure of the art market, starting from the Golden Age of Illustration (approximately 1890--1925) through the present time. The text will consider not only the relevant galleries and the artworks contained within, but also the illustrators and the collectors of those artworks.
