Entering the 21st century, the emergence of more and more image information in the cultural medium such as publishing industry, Internet, media, has signed the coming image era. Although these kinds of images have different forms and diversified subjects, the present situation is uneven. In this background, the Art education of schools must be reformed, developing new subject contents to meet the students' requirement of the image era.Since the dissatisfaction of illustration teaching in the Art curriculum of schools nowadays, the setup, the Art textbooks, methods of this course having not been perfect and the resources still not enough, so I want to research illustration teaching in the Art curriculum of schools in the image era so as to solve these problems. And this paper is supposed to be divided into 5 chapters: the prologue chapter, the first chapter for the sketch of the Art curriculum of schools and illustration teaching, the second chapter devoted for the present situation and problems of illustration teaching in the Art curriculum of schools, the third one for the experimental research towards the illustration teaching, and the last chapter for the summary.The first part is raising the questions, the generally research contents, from the times background and Art education in schools to put forward the necessity of illustration teaching.The first chapter is devoted to conclude and analyze the Art education theories of the Art curriculum of schools and illustration teaching, reorganized the fundamental knowledge of illustrations in the image era. After arranging the illustration research papers and books from the domestic to the abroad, I find that there is really lack of the research fruits about illustration teaching in the Art curriculum of schools.The second chapter is about the questionnaire and interview, I want to use this method to analyze the present situation of illustration teaching in the schools. Some are involved in the Sino-Japanese Art textbooks, , students, Art teachers, and professional illustrators.In the third chapter, Combining the Art education theories of illustration teaching about appreciation and creation, I designed a serious of the course unit about illustration teaching, including illustration appreciation and creation, and the styles such as textbooks, teaching plan, multimedia courseware, teaching sources, and student's Art-works have been considered and put into effect on the Class One in the seventh grade in Shanghai Shibei middle school. The result manifested the course unit about illustration teaching which I created has a certain effect on four aspects like the ability of interpreting the illustrations, the ability of creating and working together with the classmates, the interest towards illustrations and the ability of taking use of the illustration to relax themselves or the ability of expressing the information. These four aspects could let the teachers for reference.In the ending part, I mainly concentrate on the summary of the research object, the research fruits, the research limitation, and the hope towards future.In conclusion, the endless possibility of the development of the illustration in the image era, no matter what on the forms of Art or practicability, will be rapidly improving by people's requirements towards appreciation of the beauty and endless creation. Accompanied by the development of illustrations and Art education, and under the ceaseless effort of the experts, teachers and students, the illustration teaching in the Art curriculum of schools will be more mature and full of the Chinese characteristics between the theoretical and practical aspects.
