Abstract/Summary:
It is essential for residents of rural and northern communities that the current negative spiral of confrontational relationships with physicians come to an end. Achieving detente and an atmosphere of continuous cooperation will require several overlapping elements, not the least being: a recognition of common ground that exists away from the battlefield and attendant positioning, and inclusion of community interests in searching for solutions. Health care is a community, one with many faces and many driving forces.;This action research project examines how to create system conditions within the health care system that provide solutions to the physician recruitment and retention challenges faced by rural and northern British Columbia communities.
