Abstract/Summary:
“What is the most effective approach of inner healing in the Korean context?” was the motivating question for my doctoral research. My answering statement and main thesis of this dissertation is that inner healing ministry for the Korean church need a communal approach. And I present the Ecclesial Model of Inner Healing as a communal approach of inner healing. Compared to an individualized approach of inner healing, the Ecclesial Model of Inner Healing is a church-based, communal, and holistic approach of inner healing. And this dissertation is the theoretical and practical presentation of this new approach.; This paper begins with unveiling the discrepancy between the communal character of spiritual problems among Koreans and the individualistic approach of current inner healing ministries performed in the Korean church. This paper insists that current Westernized and individualistic approaches are not effective to deal with spiritual problems which have communal character.; Then, this paper presents the Ecclesial Model of Inner Healing as a solution. This model has two main structures in its theory and practice. First, it is a church-based model. And this model consists of three dimensions: relationship, power, and truth. This paper proves that the model has historical precedence and practical validity through six case studies.; In the last part, the author develops a theoretical and practical framework. Serious dialogue with traditional theology and with relevant theories of psychology is made. The theology of inner healing and the theology of the Ecclesial Model of Inner Healing are introduced. Then a contextualized approach of this new model is presented.; As a conclusion, the author asserts that the Korean church needs to be born again as a healing community. Relational, power, and truth dimensions should be recovered and reconstructed. Korean Christians need to be healed at a deep level. In this way, the Korean church can be a missional church for the twenty-first century.
