Abstract/Summary:
This study addressed otitis media and speech-language development using a confidential survey of twenty-five pediatricians. The survey explored pediatricians' opinions about whether otitis media impacts speech-language-hearing development. Results found that pediatricians had varied opinions about otitis media and speech-language-hearing development. Although pediatricians reported the age of otitis media onset could impact speech-language development, they had mixed opinions about an overall effect on speech-language development. In addition, pediatricians agreed that otitis media could affect a child's hearing status, but they were less likely to agree that a history of otitis media required referral for audiological testing.
