Abstract/Summary:
In landscape architecture neglects to address issues for a harmonious co-habitation in a shared home environment, between the domestic cat and their owner. The large number of cats found in households, coupled with the growing concern among owners for the well-being of their companion cat, indicates a growing need for guidance. Guidelines were developed by examining the needs of cats and their owners, and by determining which of these needs or concerns could be addressed in a landscape design. Selected feline needs with human needs and concerns were correlated and guidelines were established unifying focus of those needs. The created guidelines should enable the designer to effectively meet the needs of the client and his pet. Specific examples of ways in which the guidelines might be applied are included. A realistic interior and exterior landscape design problem is provided and discussed according to the developed guidelines.
