Abstract/Summary:
Facilities and lanes have been developed for high occupancy vehicles (HOV) over the past few years to aid in reducing congestion and also to offer a travel time savings for users. The purpose of this study is to determine freeway volume thresholds at which an HOV contraflow lane would be feasible. This is achieved through observing the performance characteristics of delay, fuel consumption, and emissions versus various volume levels using the CORSIM integrated software.
