Abstract/Summary:
Greenways are a community revitalization mechanism. Planners and Landscape Architects have used greenways to open up opportunities for community development and the restoration of our living environment. Three key elements that allow this to happen are linkage, accessibility, and continuity . This document outlines a greenway trail proposal and 3 conceptual plans for the Onondaga Creek Corridor.; There are precedents, both historic and contemporary, that support the development of greenways. The City of Syracuse, New York has a unique set of problems that could be addressed by the development of a greenway system. The basic concepts behind greenway development relate directly to these problems.; This document suggests specifically how this can be done. Through written documentation, sketches, photos and plans, this study analyzes some of the basic problems and proposes a 'doable' plan for immediate implementation and a vision for the future of an 'Onondaga Creek Greenway'.; The location of this study is the section of Onondaga Creek from the Northern Boundary of the Onondaga Nation Territory to the Inner Harbor.
