Abstract/Summary:
The area method of pavement evaluation was developed as an alternative pavement evaluation system to provide a single value that can be understood. The area method uses a pavement deficiency weighting factor that is developed based on inputs by professionals in the pavement management field working in municipal governments in a similar climate. These values are factored with the actual deficiencies measured on the road surface to create the good pavement area value. The good pavement area value is factored with the total surface area to create the good pavement index.; Finally, the area method of pavement evaluation was applied and compared with the City of Moose Jaw's and the City of Regina's pavement evaluation systems. The area method generally identified the same locations requiring rehabilitation and maintenance as the current systems in the two cities. The area method is a simpler and easier pavement evaluation system to understand and it is suitable for use by smaller municipalities. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
