While Electronic Health Record (EHR) is being developed to improve sharing of patient health record, the issue of privacy of patient EHR arises mainly due to the patient's lack of knowledge and control over his/her EHR being shared. Hence, a privacy protection reference model for shared EHR to address this problem is proposed in the thesis. The model is composed of three layers: contract layer, peer-to-peer layer and EHR data warehouse bank layer. We define the contract lifecycle and components at the top contract layer. Based on the subschema regarding shared EHR and other components specified in the established contracts, the middle peer-to-peer layer utilizes a token to transfer the data of shared EHR to the peer that needs it in a health care transaction. The concept of data warehouse bank, an independent repository to store and manage EHRs, is presented at the bottom EHR data warehouse bank layer. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)...
