Abstract/Summary:
This research initiates a method to infer the in-flight particle temperature based on the ratio of two intensity signal, obtained through two spectrally selective bandpass optical filters. The method uses the ratio of intensities of two images focused on the same target. A set of calibration experiments using a blackbody and a heated solid element was performed that indicated the detection capability limits. Based on these experiments and on preliminary tests with particles, it is established that the particle visibility is satisfactory, but that more work needs to be done to allow particle temperatures to be inferred from the particle stream images.
