Particles refer to tiny solid, liquid or gas in condition of segmentation, which are frequently analyses and measurement object in industry, agriculture, medicine, scientific research etc. We can analyze their quality and characteristic by counting the numbers and extracting their features. Adopts the theory of digital image processing to analyze and measure particles, which can easy work intension, enhance the efficiency and accuracy of work. As a result, it is widely applied and becomes a research hotspot in recent years.The main researches of this thesis include image pre-processing, image segmentation and parameter analyses.Firstly, this thesis introduces some pre-processing, image segmentation and binary image processing techniques about particle image processing and analysis. After comparing several methods of threshold segmentation, the threshold segmentation based on method of maximum classes square error is adopted. To the characteristic of particle image, we use a method of area filter to reduce noise and fill the hollow in binary image.Secondly, the paper sums up the main touching particle image segmentation methods, compared and analyzed these methods and pointed out the advantages and disadvantages, the simulation results are also given.Thirdly, this thesis makes a detailed analysis for over-segmentation problem of the watershed segmentation algorithm, and improves this segmentation algorithm. The improved algorithm uses ultra-erosion method to get the distance transformation map. the structuring element adopts the 4 neighborhood structuring element and the 8 neighborhood structuring element by turns. And the improved algorithm adopts an adaptive way to get the maximum separate regions as seeds to avoid over-segmentation problem. Through the experimental segmentation of a large number of particles can be found, the algorithm can achieve the desires segmentation.Finally, this thesis introduces various features parameters of the particle, used of labeling algorithm and contour extraction algorithm to obtain particle's features parameters such as area, perimeter, shape, etc, the parameters are practicable. And design a simple particle image processing system under the Visual C++ 6.0 environment.
