| As more people find smart phones capable to perform many day-to-day tasks for them, (e.g., billing, accounting, navigation, etc.) they carry their phone at all times. In addition, many people are concerned about weight loss and/or maintenance, and are, therefore, interested in monitoring their daily physical activity. We developed an application that, when using a smart phone's built-in accelerometer and GPS sensors, the device gathers and analyzes its owners movement data. The application can assess whether a phone's motion is likely to he the result of its carrier's physical activity or not. Working together with a web-based counterpart, it can assess and record a person's physical activity on an almost constant basis. On the web site, that data is stored in a database. The individual may view current diet and exercising trends, along with a statistical analysis of their physical activity throughout weeks, months and years. Future developments will provide analysis and useful notifications and recommendations, as well as easy ways to record calories in-take (food) in addition to calories burned (exercise). |
