Writing activities were incorporated into a tenth grade geometry classroom to help increase student knowledge on a unit of triangles. Various qualitative methodologies were used to triangulate the data. These methods consisted of quizzes, a test, a 4-point Likert scale survey and an open-ended questionnaire. The data revealed that integrating writing activities into this mathematics classroom might have been one factor that enabled comprehension of the material. In addition, many students believed that this writing process helped them learn the material and be successful on the assessments. |
