Abstract/Summary:
This study's objective was to design and implement an online "life writing" project for adolescents wherein the participants were anonymous through the use of a username and password. The study involved a group of ten male and female participants ranging in age, race, and writing level. The participants were recruited from various organizations in the Capital district area of New York State including foster homes, Girl Scouts, private schools, and Boys and Girls Clubs. The six-week project was based on the craft of life writing (writing about one's life in the genre of creative nonfiction) and included exercises focusing on expressing emotions through writing, writing with your senses, giving constructive feedback to peers, and incorporating feedback into revisions. The analysis reveals that the participants who remained active throughout the entire project showed improvements in their ability to write expressively about their lives, and give feedback to their peers. They also strengthened their writing skills through the revision process.
